Fujitsu launches specialist scanners for superior document management

High Five: Fujitsu leads the way to enhanced production scanning

London, 3 September 2008 — Fujitsu Europe Limited, a market leader in document imaging scanners, today announced its next generation of specialist production document scanners – four new high-speed colour, duplex models - fi-6670, fi-6670A, fi-6770 and fi-6770A - and a high speed colour simplex model - fi-6750S - enabling customers to get the exact specification they need to meet their requirements. All models offer new intelligent functions for advanced paper handling, improved feeding technology and enhanced speeds. With processing speeds of up to 90 pages per minute or 180 images per minute (duplex model, A4, landscape, 200 dpi colour), all are amongst the fastest document scanners in their class.

The best get better...

The new scanners are replacements to two hugely successful fi-range models. The fi-6670 and fi-6670A replace the current fi-5650C model and the fi-6770 and fi-6770A are successor models to the current fi-5750C. With a daily duty cycle of 15,000 scans these models can support occasional scanning up to three times this level. Coupled with the VRS Professional software included as standard this provides the greatest possible flexibility for both front- and back-office scanning environments. Additionally the fi-6670A and the fi-6770A are equipped with a Colour Graphics Adapter (CGA) board for faster processing of sophisticated image enhancement using VRS algorithms.

The final addition to the range, the fi-6750S, is an entry-level A3 format device that enables fast scanning of single sided documents. It features both an automatic document feeder (ADF) to scan high volumes of paper and an A3 flatbed unit, which can scan delicate or damaged documents. It expands the product portfolio to offer customers looking for a simplex scanner a highly affordable, yet technologically advanced, option. All of the scanners have been developed to be state of the art and offer reliable, stable integration with most Enterprise Content Management systems.

High-speed and intelligent multi-feed functions

These new scanners make duplex scanning easier through advanced paper feed and scanning technology. The fi-6670 and fi-6770 series scanners simplify batch-scanning processes by allowing documents that have sticky notes or photos attached to them to pass through the scanner without triggering false multi-feeds. The 200-sheet ADF supports a continuous scan of mixed batch documents containing paper of different weights, quality and formats of DIN A3 down to A8. On top of this, this series of scanners is able to scan oversized documents up to 3m long, which enables them to digitize electrocardiograms, instrumental data readings and other long documents, which need to be scanned and filed for the future.
Additionally, the fi-6750S scanner, the simplex-version based on the new fi-6670 / fi-6770 duplex-series, allows fast capture of single sided documents. It features both an ADF and an A3 flatbed and expands Fujitsu’s product portfolio to meet specific customer requirements in the simplex scanning markets.

“In today’s high paced marketplace, speed and process efficiency is key for decreasing cost. This is true in enterprises of any size and most relevant for companies offering scanning services” said Klaus Schulz, Manager, Product Marketing EMEA, Fujitsu Europe Limited. “With this new series of scanners Fujitsu sets the pace for digitizing huge volumes of documents in any kind of back or front office environment. With their advanced technology, specialist features and innovative design this new range of scanners is perfect for the 21st century workplace.”

Ergonomic design

With office comfort and ergonomic design an important factor in all workplaces the new fi-range of scanners come with some innovative additions to make their operation easy and comfortable. For ease of use, and to help with maximising office space, the fi-6670 series scanner features identical control panels on either side of the scanner to allow for one button scanning configurations. This allows for the full functionality of the scanner to be used no matter where you are operating it.

The flatbed-equipped fi-6770 series model scanner also comes with innovative features and provides users the option of re-positioning the automatic document feeder (ADF) by 180 degrees. This enables more comfortable scanning and also allows for office space to be maximised with the scanner being able to be pivoted for space saving scanning.

Valuable software bundles

The Fujitsu fi-6670 and fi-6770 series scanners come bundled with Adobe Acrobat, ScandAll PRO for advanced image processing and enhancement, as well as VirtualReScan (VRS) 4.2 Professional. VRS provides users with more automation capabilities that further reduce the need for manual intervention in the scanning process and offers a powerful suite of intelligent image processing features, including automatic orientation, blank page removal, background saturation and colour detection. The VRS software also eliminates the need to rescan document images because of its automatic check for adjustment of alignment (skew), brightness, contrast and image clarity.
